ABSTRACT
The quality of castings has a particularly role in all foundries worldwide. In this context, quality assurance is the overall objective of the foundries. In this chapter, various moulding processes, i.e. classification of moulding, green sand moulding and cores, various casting process, i.e. permanent mould casting, centrifugal casting process and die-casting process, pouring (gating design), effects of friction and velocity distribution, casting defects, causes and remedies are included. Looking at the need of the hour, metal casting applications in the automotive industry and automotive moulding processes are also discussed in detail.
