ABSTRACT
Forging is the technology of shaping a metal piece into the desired shape. This technology is widely used in the industry for creating the well-defined shape of the metal. From using a simple hammer and anvil in the 12th century for making a simple shape to making the complex shapes in present times forging has witnessed various advancements in its methods. In the recent times there had seen much advancement in the processes of forging technology, which has brought about a revolution in the field of forging technology. In this chapter various forging tools and forging method, i.e. hand tools, forging operations, power forging, i.e. spring hammer, drop hammers, metallurgical spectrum of forging, and the forging spectrum for similar alloys are discussed in detail. Defects in forged parts and their causes and forged automotive components are the unique feature of this chapter.
