ABSTRACT

The Tuskegee study is just one of the reasons why so many Black people refuse medical care or clinical trials. White people still question why Blacks are reluctant to stand in line for the COVID-19 vaccines. At the time of writing, the statistics show that fewer Black people per capita of the population are vaccinated versus their white counterparts. The main reason for this deep mistrust stems from previous grievances faced by the Black community. The Tuskegee study is also often referred to as the Tuskegee Experiment. Tuskegee is centered around Tuskegee College, a notable Black educational institution. On May 16, 1997, Bill Clinton formally apologized to the experiment victims, but no fundamental measures apart from that were taken to support them. The study conducted by Tuskegee is not an isolated incident. In 2018, a large retailer in the US settled a class-action lawsuit for racial discrimination in their hiring process.
