ABSTRACT

The automotive industry is experiencing a convergence of disruptions unlike any seen since the early 1900s. Autonomous, connectivity, electrification, mobility, and subscription business models are reshaping the automotive industry and creating a frenzy of activity. Recent studies show that the adoption rate of electronic vehicles (EVs) continues to rise. However, despite the positive outlook, EVs face significant hardships which hinder its rapid adoption, especially within communities of color. Tesla and other manufacturers state that these new innovative AI-enabled machines will provide fewer crashes by removing human error from the equation. No drivers having to call in sick, no drinking or smoking incidents in the cabin, no half-sleep operators—the truck can be on the road every day. No salaries, medical, and health insurance expenses. AI and algorithms can internalize bias and stereotypes because the training data may include discriminatory language, photo-sensitive images, and human prejudice.
