ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we explore various techniques for estimating and predicting the strengths of composite materials, taking micromechanics into account. It is widely acknowledged that a composite material composed of continuous long fibers embedded in a matrix resin exhibits distinct strengths in various directions. In this chapter, we present methodologies for predicting composite strengths in axial tension, axial compression, and diverse failure modes, which do not involve fiber failures such as transverse tension and transverse shear.
