ABSTRACT
This chapter covers a wide range of conveyors used for moving heavy unit loads, defined as any single item being handled that weighs more than 200 lb. This can include drums, crates, slip sheets, and pallets carrying various products, be it cases of wine, bags of dog food, or partially assembled diesel engines. Among heavy unit loads, pallets make up the vast majority of applications, and the majority of pallets are made of wood. Discussed are topics such as chain-driven live roller conveyors, chain conveyors, transfers, and turntables. We also cover topics relating to the products being handled.
