ABSTRACT

In the first chapter, several safety professionals tell their stories exploring the connection between trust, communication, and safety in different work settings. The chapter emphasizes the importance of building trust between colleagues and creating an environment that promotes open communication to enhance safety. When employees feel trusted, they are more likely to openly communicate potential safety concerns without fear of negative consequences. Furthermore, the chapter explores the idea that enhancing safety is not a one-time endeavor but an ongoing process that requires consistent openness to innovation and the courage to challenge the status quo. This process involves asking thought-provoking questions, being receptive to unconventional safety approaches, and taking calculated risks to effect change.
