ABSTRACT

The usage of fibers in concrete is the subject of this chapter. You can use fibers for different purposes in concrete production. You should know about the different fibers and their effects on the properties of fresh and hardened concrete.

The first type of fibers mentioned here is steel fibers. Two different types of steel fibers are the macro-steel fibers and micro-steel fibers defined. The specifications, differences, and usages for these two fibers are mentioned. The positive and negative effects of these two types of steel fibers on the properties of fresh and hardened concrete are also discussed.

Glass fibers are the second type of fibers mentioned in this chapter. For this type of fibers also, the specifications and positive and negative effects on the properties of fresh and hardened concrete are discussed. The most important usage of these fibers is for the production of glass fiber-reinforced concrete elements (GFRC) for the exterior design of the structures described.

Artificial fibers and the most important type of them which are the polypropylene fibers are the next subject. For this case also, the specifications and the effects of them on the properties of fresh and hardened concrete are mentioned.

The last type of fibers discussed is the natural fibers, and its specification and effects on the properties of fresh and hardened concrete are described.
