ABSTRACT

This chapter is about the different tests of fresh and hardened concrete. These tests are necessary for the quality control of the concrete.

The first part of this chapter is about the most important tests for fresh concrete. The workability of fresh concrete and the tests for the evaluation of it consist of the slump test, flow table test, and slump flow test for softer concretes mentioned here. The usage of the rheometer for concrete which is a new vision for the evaluation of concrete workability is the next subject. Temperature of fresh concrete is the next issue mentioned here with the effect of temperature on the properties of concrete. Density and air content of concrete are the last tests that are discussed for fresh concrete.

The second part of this chapter is about the most important tests for the hardened concrete. The compressive strength test for the evaluation of the most important mechanical property of concrete is the first test for hardened concrete. Different specimens that you can use for this test and the effect of them on the final results are introduced here. Concrete elastic modules and Poisson’s ratio test and the hardened concrete density are also mentioned. A very important test for the durability of concrete is the permeability test described in the next part of this chapter.

The third part of this chapter is about the most important tests of concrete in the structure. The ultrasonic test and Schmidt hammer test as two non-accurate tests for the evaluation of concrete quality in the structure are described. After that, the concrete core test as an accurate test for the evaluation of concrete quality in the structures is discussed.
