ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter brings together the work presented across the chapters of this book and presents some of the key outputs and contributions. Throughout this book, the reasoning, methods and processes involved in developing new flight-deck technologies from a user-centred approach have been described. We highlighted that there are three key stages involved in this approach: designing, modelling and evaluating. The inclusion of the end-user throughout each of the three stages is imperative to the successful design of new technologies, especially on the flight deck. Within this chapter we summarise each of the chapters in turn and provide a high-level synopsis of the important elements of user-centred design on the flight deck. Recommendations for applying and replicating this process are then presented.
