Safety controlling is the management function of identifying what must be done for health and safety, setting health and safety standards, inspecting to verify completion of work, evaluating, and following up with safety action. This is the most important safety management function and is vital to the design, implementation, and maintenance of a successful health and safety management system (SMS).
