ABSTRACT

As the term hazardous material or chemical indicates, it refers to substances that may pose a threat to humans, animals, or the environment if they are exposed to them. A hazardous material can be classified into one of the following categories in this chapter: toxic, corrosive, flammable, explosive, radioactive, cryogenic, and reactive. This chapter explains a number of terms related to toxicity and flammability. These terms include route of exposure, dose, potency, flash point, flammability, lower and upper explosive limits, and terms related to route of exposure. During the second part of this chapter, a discussion is conducted regarding the advantages and hazards associated with the use of various gases in the oil and gas industry. These elements, substances or chemicals include corrosion inhibitors, anti-foams, oxygen, nitrogen, sea water, and steam, as well as corrosion inhibitors and anti-foams.
