ABSTRACT

In the last two decades, competition amongst enterprises has increased tremendously, from the perspectives of the intensifying power of information and the capability of information technology (IT) solution enablement. Against this backdrop, interest in information architecture for enterprise purposes has grown. However, the deployment of the architecture remains a challenge for many enterprises. This chapter focuses on the role of principles in the development and implementation of enterprise information architecture (EIA), examining how EIA can be best leveraged, exploited, or otherwise used to provide business value. The obligatory passage point (OPP) from actor-network theory (ANT) is employed to bring about a fresh perspective and new methodological principles required in architecting the information of the enterprise in organisations.
