ABSTRACT

System and application maintenance include activities such as patch management, logging and monitoring, business continuity enablement, configuration management and change management that are part of digital operations. In this chapter we discuss the digital transformation methods related to digital operations. The best practices of patch management are centralized management, automated provisioning and deployment, consolidated view of compliance, prioritization, testability, testability and minimal downtime. Patch acquisition, compliance scanning, patch deployment and patch monitoring and reporting are various stages of patch management. A high available application requires multi-instance servers preferably running from two different data centers in active-active configuration. A security information and event management (SIEM) provides a centralized log repository by ingesting the logs from all enterprise sources and by providing real-time analytics on the logs. As part of logging and monitoring process we define the log sources and then we ingest the logs and analyze them. Runbooks codify the standard operating procedure and provides step-by-step details for executing a process.
