ABSTRACT

Digital transformation redefines the business processes, technology landscape and helps organizations to efficiently function. Organizations are increasingly embracing the digital transformation journey to stay competitive, invent new revenue streams, optimize cost, improve efficiency and implement their long-term business strategy. The chapter “An Introduction to Digital Transformation” covers the core concepts of digital transformation from various dimensions. We begin by looking at various definitions of digital transformation to understand the broad scope of digital transformation. We understand that broadly digital transformation impacts are technological, social and organizational. We can categorize the key business drivers of digital transformation into categorizes such as implementation of business strategy, customer centricity, technology, process and infrastructure alignment, culture alignment and efficiency improvement. We define the key pillars of the digital transformation as strategy and vision (that includes process changes, customer experience, disruptive technologies and value chain impact), people and culture, technology and capabilities (that includes modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing, Internet of Things and others) and process and governance. We finally wrap up the chapter by discussing the best practices of digital transformation.
