ABSTRACT

As digital transformation encompasses various functions and processes of an enterprise, it is necessary to understand the core building blocks of digital transformation. In this chapter we define digital transformation framework that identifies the core building blocks of digital transformation as business process transformation (covering process digitization, process automation, self-service, faster data-driven decision-making, machine learning–enabled processes and process optimization), infrastructure transformation (that covers topics such as infrastructure cost optimization, design of scalable infrastructure, design of highly available and highly resilient infrastructure), operations transformation (that covers topics such as automated operations, managed services, observability, continuous monitoring and notifications, metrics-based tracking, high availability, high resilience, elastic scalability, continuous improvement and efficient incident management) and technology transformation (that covers topics such as services transformation, user experience transformation, first time right framework, legacy modernization and digital factory). The chapter also discusses the steps for process digitization and business process automation. The chapter also maps the digital transformation building blocks to various use cases such as learning and training, customer service, e-commerce and others.
