ABSTRACT

Functionalization is the surface modification of nanoparticles (NPs), which involves attaching various functional chemical groups onto the surface of NPs to improve their characteristics and accurately hit the target. Functionalized NPs also exhibit excellent physical qualities, such as anticorrosion, anti-agglomeration, antifouling, conductivity, and noninvasiveness. However, as modern civilization develops, special functions are required in domains where conventional polymers cannot meet all needs, improving the development of new polymers with specific purposes. Advanced functional polymers and NPs with potential applications are used in numerous domains, including energy harvesting and storage, wireless communication industry, biomedicine, oil/water or gas separation, and intelligent and bionic industries. In this section, we deliberately discuss the classification of nanomaterial/NPs. A brief overview of the various functionalization approaches to functionalize the nanomaterials and polymeric materials is given.
