ABSTRACT

The word “cyborg,” which is derived from “cybernetic organism,” applies to a wide variety of both real and imagined creatures that combine biological bodies with technology enhancements. Cyborgs are typically portrayed as technologically advanced people in science fiction literature and cinema, although real-world instances include cardiac patients with pacemakers. In especially via the work of Donna Haraway, the feminist theorist of history and technology, the phrase and its instantiations in mainstream culture, such as Robocop and The Terminator, have influenced communication and cultural studies approaches to technology, culture, and the body.
