ABSTRACT

Let’s admit it, without business and business models, there would be very little medicine nor MedTech developments. In this chapter, I would like to discuss possibilities and challenges arising from the fact that there are several stakeholders involved in the developments in healthcare and MedTech today. The time to develop and the lead time to reach the market are challenges worth discussing. The need for good financial support is another important parameter. At the same time, we must not forget how satisfying it is to work for something good, and by the way, let’s have the dream to one day receive a Nobel Prize. Well, maybe that is to raise high expectations.

At the department where I got my PhD, there was a saying that when you yourself realize that you are not going to get the Nobel Prize, a life crisis begins; it is something you don’t want your friends to learn about. It is a deep crisis when your wife discovers that you won’t get the Nobel Prize and she won’t be invited to the party and say hello to the king and queen. When your kids discover that it is a fact you won’t get the prize, you are not worth anything anymore—you are very alone, and the dream is over.

The lesson learned is don’t raise expectations and don’t tell your loved ones what you dream of.
