ABSTRACT

Rotary electric machines include dynamos, dynamometers, hydro alternators, turbogenerators, synchronous, and asynchronous motors. The most common high-performance HV electric motors are threephase asynchronous electric motors with a short-circuit armature and a ring armature. Typical online diagnostic methods of rotary electrical machines include measurement of ozone detection in air and hydrogen purity in cooling systems of HV machines, frequency analysis of current and scattering magnetic field, analysis of their starting currents, and measurement of noise and vibration. Noise diagnostics of rotary electrical machines is based on comparing the acoustic air pressure and sound frequency spectra of these machines with the acoustic pressures and frequency spectra of new or newly refurbished machines. Based on a long-term evaluation of failures of rotating electrical machines, it was found that bearing currents cause up to 50% probability of occurrence of all failures of these machines.
