ABSTRACT

Typical areas of condition monitoring of large HV electrical machines are condition monitoring of their mechanical parts. This area of diagnostics includes the measurement of machine vibrations, the torsional oscillation of their shafts, the measurement of bearing temperatures, and temperature images of electrical machine parts. The cause of vibration of rotating electric machines, e.g., turbo-generators and engines, is the dynamic imbalance of their rotors, the condition of bearings, gearboxes, and other moving parts of their parts. Inductance sensors are most often used to detect deflections. By continuous monitoring of start-ups, operation, and run-up of machines, it is possible to determine trends of gradual deterioration of the technical condition of machines. For this purpose, three-dimensional representations of frequency and time dependencies of velocity or acceleration of oscillation are used.
