ABSTRACT

Security by design is not a new concept but since it is multidisciplinary, an introduction to the subject and the basic premises it is based upon set the tone for the entire book. The relevance of the subject to multiple disciplines that are conventionally associated with security in buildings (like security professionals) and to those that are not like architects and planners) is introduced here.

The narrative starts with setting the background context, a critique on the current status and the various factors that showcase the need for the subject in current times. It gives a brief glimpse into the expected merits of this approach, especially those which will be part of the argument in the complete document.

The interpretations of this approach to diverse professional contexts and the urgency are critical to a logical understanding of further content. A global overview of the science, contemporary international theories and movements open the doors for further enquiry and examination undertaken in the book.
