ABSTRACT

Introduction and motivation. At one time or another, all of us have found ourselves looking at a clock, entranced by the simple movement of the second hand as it clicks off second-by-second movements around the clock face. This idle introspection led to the analysis of a class of string art images one might call “60-second images” because one can see the image emerge from 60 cycles in which each cycle ends one vertex farther along the polygon than where the cycle started, just like with the second hand of a clock. Figure 1 shows three 240-line 60-second images with first cycle shown in red (click the link then use Drawing Mode, Fixed Count Line Drawing (FCLD) to watch the image get drawn).
