ABSTRACT

All industrial enterprises, small, medium or large, having manufacturing as the core-area activities, must posses certain relevant/dedicated facilities, besides other resources, to support their efforts for turning out saleable products and services to keep them in sustained viable operations. The Facilities can be broadly categorised into two different types by the nature of their utilization and related monetary investments/expenditures incurred on them. Facility Planning activities, especially in medium and large industrial enterprises having products/product-mix involving complex technological processes and multiple functional agencies, assume a regular role to keep the enterprise technologically up-to-date and competitive. Experience in some large enterprises shows that such technology development efforts by enthusiastic and talented employees resulted in productivity savings running into crore of rupees in a year. It is expected that a progressive management will encourage such efforts and provide necessary support and incentives.
