ABSTRACT
The authors construct the natural extension of the dynamical system mentioned in the title by defining a mapping on the square [0, 1] [0, 1] and a new measure on the Borel subsets of [0, 1] [0, 1]. After that, they prove a number of results related to the approximation coefficients of an a-simple continued fraction which extend previous theorems due to Vahlen and Jager.
