ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 discusses the elements used within the DevOps process, specifically “DevOps represents a change in IT culture, focusing on rapid IT service delivery through the adoption of agile, lean practices in the context of a system-oriented approach. DevOps emphasizes people (and culture) and seeks to improve collaboration between operations and development teams. DevOps implementations utilize technology—especially automation tools that can leverage an increasingly programmable and dynamic infrastructure from a life cycle perspective”. Gartner

DevOps is a term used to describe better communication and collaboration between application development professionals and infrastructure operations professionals. It refers to a set of emerging practices to enable developers and operations professionals to work together. Developers want to release software more frequently, while operations professionals want to protect the stability of the infrastructure. DevOps is a business strategy of overlapping traditional operational and developmental lanes to create an environment that continually improves operations through cross-pollination of developers and operators.

This chapter will provide an overview of the DevOps Lifecycle, which includes the ability to maximize investment outcomes and ensure that customers continuously receive increased service quality and features in a manner that satisfies their needs.
