ABSTRACT

This chapter gives brief idea about ontology, integrated crop management and decision support system development using ontology. Agriculture is the main source of income for most of the Indian population, especially from rural areas. Hence, Indian economy depends on agricultural production. Considerable percentage of GDP comes from agriculture sector. Use of Information Technology in Indian farms to increase crop production and minimize yield loss is the need of the hour. Information Technology can be used on farms for automation of irrigation, soil monitoring, aerial imagery, crop nutrient content monitoring, fertilizer recommendation, crop pest and disease management and integrated communications between electronic devices on farms.
