ABSTRACT

The user’s point of view is so critical in cybersecurity. After all, cybersecurity is for all. This chapter explains how the increased complexity of systems, and the constantly moving digitization of ever-new life spheres, may contribute to risks. It is paramount to secure one’s systems, but is it possible for the user? Indeed it is. Important tips and recommendations are presented, including elements of risk modeling, and the discussion of realistic threats. Crucial, useful, easy to understand rules for user cybersecurity are extensively presented. One thing is having up-to-date software installed; another is how to think about having a good password. In this sense, a longer discussion ensues, concerning the past recommendations, and reconciling them with current reality. The chapter ends with a short discussion of user privacy.
