ABSTRACT

Digital systems surround us. Healthcare is no exception. This chapter explains the rationale and realities behind the digitization of healthcare systems and the related risks. Health is very sensitive data. At the same time, there is a constant lack of sufficient funds to maintain the computerized ecosystems – systems, and data. This is often easy prey for attackers, and the sad impact may be devastating for the affected people, the patients. Very often it is also linked to the unavailability of healthcare systems, including medical diagnostics. The digitization of healthcare also means that computers may now be responsible for people’s health and lives. This may also constitute a risk of lethal cyberattacks. A scenario is included, and it is certainly not merely philosophical.
