ABSTRACT

Hacking a State may sound spectacular, but this has already happened. As explained in this chapter, cyberattacks can result in political consequences. It is explained how cyberattacks targeted the election process in, e.g., the USA or France. Those were the shaping eye-openers. This emphasized how the digitization of the State is a delicate matter. For example, it may not be such a great idea to fully digitize the voting process. States can be secured, but what does it mean? It’s the security of State systems and data, but also a matter such as the political parties. Cybersecurity strategy must be much more than just a mere matter of political PR.
