ABSTRACT

The aspects of biology and ecology of traumatogenic catfishes belonging to three familiesof the Order Siluriformes viz. Ariidae, Cetosidae and Siluridae are dealt with in this chapter

There are several dangerous species of catfishes which are known to cause injuries to humans through their spines, stingers, and teeth. Some species on the other hand, are known to be more frequently associated with traumatic injuries. Such cases may not involve envenomation, but they may be associated with lacerations, severe bleeding and late microbial infections. This chapter deals with such species of catfishes inhabiting freshwater and marine environments.
