ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the concept of green building (GB) for a robust understanding of its importance, definitions, and goals to encourage the proliferation and implementation, especially in developing economies. The chapter also presents and discusses the various social, economic, and environmental benefits accrued to the adoption and implementation of GBs. Also, the chapter presents the hindrances to the adoption and implementation of the green concept, followed by ways of promoting its global acceptance. The discussion of the drivers is necessary to suggest the ways by which the hindrances can be avoided, minimised, and addressed. Finally, the chapter introduces the GB collaborative network at the forefront of creating awareness and expanding the knowledge base on the GB concept globally.
