ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the concept of biomimicry as a sustainability paradigm. This provides an understanding of the evolution, definitions, and different terminologies in use to refer to this concept. The chapter also provides a glimpse of the dimensions and characteristics of biomimicry to ensure its effective application. The various biomimicry views, design strategies, and approaches are further examined in this chapter. In addition, biomimicry principles which are regarded as life's principles are presented in this chapter as a guide for proferring truly sustainable innovative solutions. Finally, this chapter presents an overview of Biomimicry 3.8 and the Asknature database as resource embodiments for aiding biomimicry adoption and implementation across all sectors.
