ABSTRACT
Respirators are approved according to the requirements prescribed in the Code of Federal Regulations, title 30 and part 11 (30 CFR 11), 1 which in turn corresponds to the Bureau of Mines (BM) approval schedules. The following subparts are listed in the 30 CFR 11 for approving each class of respirator: Subpart H: Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)(Schedule 13) Subpart I: Gas Masks (Schedule 14) Subpart J: Supplied air respirators (Schedule 19) Subpart K: Dust, fume, and mist respirators (Schedule 21) Subpart L: Chemical cartridge respirators (Schedule 23) Subpart M: special use respirators (Schedules 14 or 23)
