ABSTRACT

Cyclohexanol was qualitatively detected in the mixture of flavor volatiles from fried chicken and baked potatoes which indicates that the compound may be formed naturally. Cyclohexanol may be released to the environment as a result of its manufacture and use as a solvent for alkyd and phenolic resins and cellulosics; its use as a source of adipic acid for the manufacture of nylon; its use in the production of soap, plasticizers, and plastics. If cyclohexanol is released to soil, it is expected to exhibit high to very high mobility in soil based upon Koc values of 111 and 13 estimated from linear regression equations. If cyclohexanol is released to water, it is not expected to adsorb to sediment or suspended particulate matter or to bioconcentrate significantly in aquatic organisms based upon its estimated Koc and BCF values.
