ABSTRACT

There is no evidence of commercial production or sales of 1,1-dichloropropane in the US either as the isolated chemical or in commercial mixtures. It is probably only used in small amounts possibly as a laboratory reagent. If released into soil or water during its production and use, it would be lost primarily by volatilization. Bioconcentration in fish will not be significant. It is poorly adsorbed by soil and may leach into ground water. In the air, it will disperse and degrade primarily by reaction with photochemically produced hydroxyl radicals. It will also be washed out by rain. Due to its limited production and use, exposure to the general public will be low. No information could be found concerning the production and use of 1,1-dichloropropane or its presence as an impurity in a major product. It appears to be produced and used only in small quantities for research purposes and its input into the environment would be accordingly very low.
