ABSTRACT

This chapter presents radio communications for a variety of wireless applications to environmental monitoring, particularly on telemetry and wireless sensor networks. The focus is on the physical principles and available technology. For this purpose, topics in transmission, reception, and antennas are covered. Telemetry deals with how to enable data collection from a remote station. Wireless sensor networks s are networks of wireless-enabled microcontroller-based interacting with sensors and a gateway node. These networks have environmental monitoring applications allowing data collection with finer spatial and temporal resolution.
