ABSTRACT
This cost model focuses upon a generic luxury later living development in the South of England formed of 50 number apartments comprising 20 one-bed units, 25 two-bed units and 5 two-bed ‘close care units’ that provide care and facilities for persons with dementia. Later living developments are a lifestyle concept providing luxury developments to over 65s. The apartments are designed to ensure optional functionality incorporating innovative technologies such as ‘smart’ floors. The ‘close care’ units could incorporate aspirating smoke systems within apartments to detect fires at the earliest opportunity, fire suppression systems within cooker hoods that isolate the heat source and discharge a fine water mist that requires limited clean up in the event of discharge. Within the later living developments residents can select their desired level of care that best suits their needs and medical requirements.
