ABSTRACT

The paradigm shift from conventional oil and gas to green energy sources is not, and will not be a smooth transitional shift. The most telling and pointed example for me of the rough road ahead to have a gigantic shift from hydrocarbon energy sources to green energy sources came out in one of my upper college-level environmental engineering/health courses I taught. After discussing the paradigm shift, one of my students spoke up and said, “My family bought an EV and got rid of it after a few months—my father stated a fact that when you run out of gas, a 5-gallon gas can and a nearby service station fixes that problem … but when the EV battery dies on the open road, what are you to do? There is no 5-gallon cans of electricity to recharge the battery.”
