ABSTRACT

Elementary theories and methods for investigations of welding distortion and residual stress were systematically introduced, while transient thermal elastic plastic FE computation with advanced computation technique is presented to effectively examine the thermal and mechanical responses due to welding. Concept of welding inherent strain and inherent deformation was also presented to clarify the generation mechanism of welding-induced buckling, and induction heating as heating source of transient thermal tension technique was also introduced. To accurately evaluate the welding residual stress of high tensile strength steel, solid phase transformation as well as microstructure evolution was eventually presented.
