ABSTRACT

Welding residual stress of butt-welded joint with Q690 thick plate was evaluated by means of transient thermal elastic plastic FE computation, while solid element FE model was employed. Computed result of thermal analysis was validated by measured thermal cycles as well as shape of molten pool. In order to accurately evaluate welding residual stress, microstructure evolution as well as solid phase transformation was considered and validated with measurement. Eventually, FE computation considering solid phase transformation and initial rolling stress was carried out to predict welding residual stress, which has a good agreement compared with measurement.
