ABSTRACT

With the axial tensile test experiment of specimen, parameters of GTN damage model were confirmed by means of FE computation, then fracture performance of examined butt-welded joint specimen of Q690 thick plate was evaluated with GTN damage model, which has a good agreement comparing with experiment. Fracture performance of examined butt-welded joint was numerically examined with four computational cases, while the influence of transverse residual stress and welding defects were individually considered. Eventually, mechanism of welding transverse residual stress to degrade the fracture performance of examined butt-welded joint was presented with GTN damage model as well as the evolution of void nucleation, propagation, and aggregation.
