ABSTRACT

The pancreas is 12-15 cm long and lies across the posterior wall of the abdominal cavity. Its head is found within the curve of the small intestine, and the body and tail are directed toward the left, extending to the spleen. Pancreatic digestive enzymes containing bicarbonate-rich juice enter the small intestine. It is located behind the peritoneal cavity. Test of pancreatic function test includes tests for detection of malabsorption, tests for exocrine function, test to assess extrahepatic obstruction, endocrine-related tests and imaging/noninvasive tests. Gastrointestinal fluid aspiration by incubation is required. After an overnight fasting, a stimulus is given to the pancreas, followed by the measurement of he total volume of pancreatic juice, the concentration of secreted carbonate, and the activities of duct gland enzymes. Amylase is the main enzyme for pancreatic function.
