ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the importance of articulating and communicating your game designs using different types of documentation and sharing these documents with the entire team. Though there is no unified standard for documenting game designs, there are some best practices that are shared, including the development of visualizations such as flowcharts, wireframes, control tables, spreadsheets, and concept art. Of course, succinct, persuasive text descriptions of designs are also important. An outline of the possible contents of design documents is included in this chapter as well as a discussion of design macros, an efficient format for describing all aspects of a design using a spreadsheet format.
