ABSTRACT

Formative usability inspection methods or usability testing can be either expert-based or user-based. Expert-based usability inspections include heuristic evaluation and cognitive walkthrough. Usability testing that involves representative users, such as think-aloud usability testing, generates more valuable findings because it is more representative of a real-life situation. The purpose of formative usability testing is to identify usability problems that can be fixed prior to a product being implemented.
