ABSTRACT
During the first decade of the 21st century, Solar Decathlon overcame many obstacles to attain a strong reputation as an outstanding educational program in the United States. For schools of architecture and engineering, participating in a Solar Decathlon was a coveted opportunity for college students to gain hands-on experience with the challenges of innovative residential design and construction. Motivation was heightened with the prospect of winning a national competition that rewarded ingenuity and creativity.
