Reflections from Solar Decathlon Founder Richard King: “What started as an unconventional idea in the late 1990s has now come full circle. My initial idea took hold, flourished, and soared to unexpected heights. The dream of a Solar Decathlon design-and-build competition became reality. Across time, each successful edition of this innovative program led to further development and expansion. I am humbled and honored with the amazing outcomes. In my mind, there are several reasons why Solar Decathlon has withstood the test of time and remains viable and valuable in various settings.”
