ABSTRACT

Real Analysis is a broad area of mathematics devoted to the rigorous study of the set of real numbers and their properties, infinite sequences and series of real numbers, and real functions. Most of you already have a head start on the basic topics and are familiar with some of the terminology, which is the same as that used in calculus. In a Real Analysis course, however, the focus is to provide rigorous mathematical definitions and proofs for objects and properties treated mainly as computational tools in a traditional Calculus course. Real analysis is a vast field of study, and an introductory course can usually only cover the fundamentals. To emphasize this, the course is also offered at some institutions under the name Advanced Calculus.
