ABSTRACT

The study of crop ecology is related to the study of agro ecosystems and the field of agro-ecology is not associated with any one particular method of farming, whether it be sustainable, intensive or extensive. Crop ecology is therefore, become an important subject of study for successful agriculture. Crop ecology is concerned with the management of soil for growing of crops. Crop ecology as a field of study looks at how the agroecosystem functions naturally and examines how adjustment can be made to the agroecosystem without destroying other facts of the system. More recently, Agro-ecology has entered the discourse of international and UN institutions. Agro-ecology is fundamentally different from other approaches to sustainable development. By enhancing their autonomy and adaptive capacity, Agro-ecology empowers producers and communities as key agents of change. Agro-ecology places a strong focus on the rights of women, youth and indigenous peoples.
