ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with rotor-bearing system-free and forced vibration analyses. The rotor is taken in its simplest form, a rigid, long cylindrical shape. But for bearing, a variety of linear models have been considered. For a very simple single disc with flexible shaft and flexible bearing, a few illustrations have also been given using an analytical approach, which becomes very involved even in such a simple configuration of a rotor-bearing system. Few formulations with a very simple, flexible foundation is also given of the flexible rotor-bearing system. Both free and forced vibration aspects of a rotor-bearing system have been covered, but in this chapter, to make things simple, the gyroscopic couple effect has not been included, which will be covered in Chapter 5. In the forced vibration, mainly the steady-state unbalance response has been covered.
